Madeleine Henry
Veterinary Epidemiologist
I qualified as a vet from University College Dublin in 2008 and spent 5 years working in mixed practice in the UK, during which I undertook an MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health. I joined SRUC in 2012 and have been involved in a range of projects dealing principally with zoonotic disease in livestock, antimicrobial usage/resistance, and biosecurity. I have also worked with social science colleagues on projects addressing the mental health of vets and farmers. In the current SRP I am PI on a project exploring the topic of traceability in the camelid and farmed deer sectors.
I enjoy working at the science/producer and science/policy interfaces, and am interested in improving the flow of information and understanding between these groups. I have recently joined EPIC IV and will be contributing to Challenge 3 – Improving veterinary surveillance to detect and reduce animal and zoonotic disease threats. I will be engaging with stakeholders in the cattle and sheep sectors to understand how best to design surveillance systems to meet the needs of those involved in all levels of cattle and sheep production in Scotland.
