Dr Jack Hearn
Applied Data Scientist
I joined EPIC in 2022 as an applied data scientist at the SRUC’s Centre for Epidemiology and Planetary Health in Inverness. My role includes developing strategies for the storage, extraction and integration of data from multiple sources in support of EPIC research projects, surveillance of animal health, and long-term agricultural experiments.
I received a PhD in the population genomics of gall wasps from the University of Edinburgh in 2014, before undertaking postdoctoral research in the epigenetics of water fleas and molecular bases of insecticide resistance in a malaria vector. I now apply my experience in genomics and bioinformatics to veterinary epidemiology and disease control as a member of the CEPH team, with a particular interest in arthropod vectors of disease.
