SENIOR VETERINARY EPIDEMIOLOGIST

SRUC’s Epidemiology Research Unit (ERU), based in Inverness, focuses on applied animal health research, both in Scotland and internationally.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Veterinary Epidemiologist to join ERU’s interdisciplinary team of veterinary epidemiologists, microbiologists, data managers, statistical and mathematical modellers, and economists.
The holder of this post would have key responsibility for engaging with the Scottish and UK pig industries, administering existing health schemes with the support of the industry, and developing and leading new initiatives for the benefit of this sector. The successful candidate will also be involved in a new livestock disease surveillance intelligence centre, and will participate in the Scottish Government’s Centre of Expertise on Animal Disease Outbreaks (EPIC) and other animal health-related research funded by Scottish Government’s Rural and Environment Science and Analytical Services Division.
We are looking for an individual with a veterinary degree and a PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology or a very closely related field. The successful candidate will have significant research, project management, and ideally line management experience, as well as experience in the development and delivery of training at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. The ability to work effectively as part of a larger team is essential. The appointee may be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or eligible for registration but this is not essential. Knowledge and experience of large animal veterinary medicine would be desirable with a Diploma from ECVPH an advantage.
This position will be based in SRUC’s Epidemiology Research Unit in Inverness. The salary will be in the region of £41,858 to £48,930 per annum. Interviews with shortlisted candidates will be held in Inverness or by videoconference (in the first instance) for international applicants. Please note, interviews are likely to take place during week commencing 25th November.
