SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe.  The Land Economy, Environment and Society Research Group is one of the largest groupings of socio-economists working in the rural, agricultural and land based sectors in the UK.

This is a Fixed Term position for a motivated and established researcher in the area of animal health economics.  The successful candidate would join a growing team of economists and social scientists working on interventions and future pathways for livestock farming in both developed and developing country contexts.  The main activities would be to conduct and develop research and research-based teaching as well as to contribute to ongoing policy debate around management of animal health.

The successful candidate would be expected to lead and to contribute to ongoing research in animal health economics, which includes dealing with policy clients, working within multidisciplinary networks and providing expertise to initiatives between SRUC and its partner institutes, as well as contributing to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate would work as part of EPIC, the Scottish Government’s Centre of Expertise on Animal Disease Outbreaks.

You will have a doctoral degree in a subject related to animal health economics or agricultural economics with a background in applied economic analysis in the field of animal health / welfare.  You would be expected to have a strong academic background, demonstrate the ability to successfully win and manage grants, as well as publish results in leading journals.  Evidence of writing for a range of audiences would also be an advantage.
